Morceaux de mes pensées
Those friends thou hast, and their adoption tried,
Grapple them to thy soul with hoops of steel;
But do not dull thy palm with entertainment
Of each new-hatch’d, unfledg’d comrade.
William Shakespeare, Hamlet
Time

Time is of the essence. We are surrounded by deadlines that we set for ourselves: finish college, start a wonderful career, married by 27, children by 29, and to live happily ever after. But what happens when you don’t meet the man of your dreams by the time you plan to get married? Or what if the man that you’re currently with is not the man you want to spend the rest of your life with?

Time is of the essence. Out of billions of people, who is the right person for you?  Not your other half. I don’t want a man to complete me; we should be two wholes. A man who is sure of himself and his place in this world.  Please add greatness to my life—think brownie points or along the lines of extra credit. How can two people meet, have great chemistry and not establish a relationship? Why is the timing in our lives so important?

Time is of the essence. Time is not infinite. Time is precious. Time binds us, controls us and blinds us and dictates our every move. Time will work itself out. Only time can tell?

Secrets

Here is the thing about secrets: it is only a secret if only one other person knows—that person being yourself. By sharing it with one other person, you are in danger of letting the world everyone else know, even though you may have full confidence and trust that the person you are confiding in will protect that vulnerable piece of information about you for you: don’t be foolish. More importantly, don’t be stop being naive. Stop trusting everyone and make them earn it instead. To think people are innately good may give them the benefit of the doubt, but there is a reason why people tell you otherwise. For you to be cautious. For you to keep your guards up. For you not to show all your cards.

Secrets are things we give to others to keep for us.

But what happens when the person you trusted to keep this secret fails at even that?

Be who you are and say what you feel: because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.

6am

Space

It’s 6 o’clock in the morning and the faint light is seeping through curtains. Opening my eyes and adjusting to the new day, I turn over to my side to take the first glance at you only to find myself staring into cold, empty space. There is only a single pillow on the queen size bed made for two and the oversized blanket that drapes over the side of the bed couldn’t even keep me warm at night. I turn over to my other side to face the white wall. I paint a picture of your face onto that white canvas as I slowly close my eyes to reenter the space in my heart where you and I exist. It’s still beating and I can still feel you there.

If this is what he wants and this is what she wants
Then why is there so much pain?
